2020 Trends for the Kitchen

When selling a house, the kitchen is the most important room for buyers. This is not surprising as it is expensive to renovate, and we spend a lot of time there. The design world moves at a rapid rate. Do you know what’s in style right now for kitchens?

If you are getting ready to renovate your residence or you are building your dream home, here are some trends from this year. Get inspired!

Warm Colours and Monochromatic Decor

Two-toned, light-coloured kitchens have been fashionable in recent years. For example, we used to combine white lacquered cabinets with wood-like finishes. This trend is behind us. Stylish kitchens are now dark and warm, think a black backsplash with grey cabinets. Also, monochrome kitchens (a single colour in different tones) are very hot.

Less Streamlined Kitchens

We now decorate our homes with a view to making them more vibrant, even in the kitchen. The time of surfaces free of accessories and completely smooth backsplashes is over. We now dare to mix materials and no longer hesitate to highlight our beautiful bowls, spice racks and other decorative objects that are so useful in this room.

Built-In Appliances

The kitchen of the future may well camouflage its appliances. Already, several new homes are equipped with automated hidden rage hoods that only pop up when you push a button. This need to hide components is also illustrated with walls that are fully covered with cabinets, which, behind sliding doors, hide the refrigerator and dishwasher. It’s beautiful and chic!

Walls With Deep Cabinets

Having more storage is one of the most common requests people make when shopping for a home. In the kitchen, the cupboards and the pantry are no longer enough. And so, in 2020, very large kitchens with at least one full wall of storage are preferred. Alternatively, a room adjacent to the kitchen is converted into a large pantry, similar to a walk-in closet in a bedroom.

Oversized Islands

We no longer have to face the problem of an insufficient amount of work surfaces! For an up-to-date kitchen, people are opting for wide and practical countertops. The island also now takes centre stage. It should be very large and can even become the main storage area.

Goodbye Doorknobs

Push latch cabinet are on trend. The fewer the number of handles you have in your kitchen, the more fashionable it will be. The effect is minimalist and very elegant.

Green Materials

Increasingly, the clients of interior designers are asking them to use eco-friendly materials. For example, they want to know if the wood has been treated with chemicals or if their cabinets contain formaldehyde. Natural materials are therefore popular; sustainable and quality products are integrated into the design, such as wood (sourced from sustainable harvesting), marble and quartz.

Black and Grey Matte Finish Appliances

While stainless steel has dominated the appliance market over the past 15 years, this trend is in decline. Large companies now offer black refrigerators, dishwashers and ranges that resemble models that were popular in the 1990s, but with a matte rather than a shiny finish. Some appliances are also available in matte grey.

We hope we have inspired you with these decor trends!
